Here are the results of the 2022 Hit Like A Girl contest— a glorious, global, galvanizing celebration of drumming and beatmaking featuring hundreds of entries from dozens of countries around the world and players of nearly every age. This year, thanks to our incredible judges, sponsors and management team, we are thrilled to be able to make more than 200 individual awards in our international, regional, weekly and mini-contests.
The results were determined by panels that consisted of multiple judges from every corner of the planet and musical spectrum. (Click here for an explanation of the evaluation criteria and a copy of the judging form. Click here to see our judges.) Scores were closer than ever with razor-thin margins and several ties. Often only a fraction of a point separated the winners from each other and other contestants. This is a testament to the rapid growth of our movement and the strong impact our community is making on drumming.
Regardless of your rank, we hope this year’s videos and stories inspire you to work hard, play hard and continue to make good choices. We can’t wait to see you all again next year.
Although Hit Like A Girl 2022 was open to girls and women from all countries, we’d like to take a moment to acknowledge our sisters in Ukraine. There have been many participants from Ukraine in previous Hit Like A Girl contests but, after the war started there in late February, we weren’t sure that any Ukrainian drummers would be able to enter the contest this year. As one player explained, “Now I cannot play drums. I had to leave my home and could not even take my sticks.”
Yet, despite difficult circumstances, 7 courageous women represented themselves, their country and our community by submitting entries for HLAG 2022.
Along with Drumeo, Vic Firth, Promark, Vater, London and Techra, as well as HLAG Ambassador to Ukraine Iryna Butko and HLAG advocate Kristen Gleeson-Prata, we are proud to present these exceptional drummers with the Hit Like A Girl “Perseverance” award.
