We are following up to the “Drum Day LA” where Drum Workshop including their other companies Latin Percussion, Gretsch, and PDP, video premiered their new gear for 2021.
Drumming News Network already posted the follow up to Gretsch and now we are following up with DW. Hosts John “JR” Robinson and DW Senior Executive Vice President John Good present to us the new offerings.
PART 01: They start off immediately with their new shell technology (New line of drums) they call “PurpleCore”. These shells have super rich low tones. We posted in depth about this along with a demonstration video on 2/8/2021, you can read our post HERE.
- DW is introducing a “5-position butt plate”
- New finishes for the Performance Series Gold Mist, Charcoal Metallic.
- New finishes for the Design Series Deep Blue Marine, Silver Slate Marine, limited edition Piano Black.
- Designer Series drums are made with a 1/32” thick ply vs the Performance Series which is 1/36” thick ply. This thicker ply is stronger and doesn’t require reinforcement rings and creates better projection of sound. They include the mini lug.
- Designer Series painted acrylic Rata Tom.
- Aura Internal LED System: light acrylic snare drums in Olive Ash Burl, Ash Swirl, Quilted Maple that illuminate the wood. Including the Aura Neil Peart “Timekeeper” snare drum.
- Collector Series “Pi” drum, this 3×14 snare has the same ration as the Greek letter Pi, hence its name. Includes mini mag throw-off and collector bag.
- Space Carbon Fiber snare.
- Dave Grohl ICON snare drum, comes with hat. This snare is based off of a snare John Good made about 5-years ago, 11-ply, teal brirds eye, white sycamore, black pear now nickel-plated hardware, and carrying bag, with Dave Grohl’s art on.
Part 02: John “JR” Robinson once again host the DW Hardware release portion of the event with DW Executive Vice President of Product Development Rich Sikra and DW R&D Specialist Connor Lombardi.
- New “Colorboards” for DW’s MFG (manufactured) Series of pedals that are retrofit-table. The board is not smooth, it has a sanded surface for extra grip. They are offered in Graphite, Cobalt Blue, & original Gun Metal finishes.
- MFG Extended foot boards. 1” longer with a 1” shorter heel.
- Ultralight Edge Carbon Fiber snare drum with over 1” of machined aluminum bearing edges.
- New snare wire 3-pack: quick release system offered in 20, 30, & 42 strand snare wires for 13 or 14” snare drums.
- ½” adjustable mini L-arm.
