Drumming News
Godsmack has officially confirmed the departure of longtime drummer Shannon Larkin and guitarist Tony Rombola. The news comes after the band kicked off their 2025 European/UK tour on March 22 in Sofia, Bulgaria, with new members Will Hunt (Evanescence) and Sam “Bam” Koltun (Faster Pussycat, Dorothy) stepping in.
Initial fan speculation was addressed in a now-deleted Facebook video posted by Larkin, who explained that he and Rombola actually left the band in late 2024. “We did quit the band last year after lots of talking to Sully and Robbie,” Larkin said, referring to frontman Sully Erna and bassist Robbie Merrill. “They understood that we didn’t want to tour anymore — that’s the reason.”
Larkin cited a desire for a simpler, quieter life after decades on the road, noting, “Tony turned 60, I’m 58. It’s not a physical thing. We just want to be home with everything that we love.”
Godsmack also issued a statement confirming the exit, saying:
“After almost 3 incredible decades, two of our most cherished members have decided to retire from the band permanently, on good terms, but for no other reason than to fulfill their desire to live a more simple and quiet life away from touring.”
Erna addressed the lineup change just before the tour began, telling Bulgarian radio that “personal things” were keeping Larkin and Rombola from joining the trek.
Despite stepping away from the road, Larkin assured fans that there is no bad blood. “This wasn’t a bad thing. We’re brothers for life with Sully and Robbie… Godsmack didn’t come to an end — it’s just a new chapter for them and a new chapter for Tony and I. We’re already making music and everybody’s happy.”
Godsmack continues their tour with Hunt and Koltun, as the band moves forward into a new era.
