TRX Cymbals, the upstart cymbal company that encourages drummers to “Play By Your Own Rules”, is celebrating its 20th anniversary this year. TRX entered the cymbal business in 2005 with a mission to develop high-quality, traditional, handcrafted Turkish cymbals that would be relevant for contemporary drummers and their music.
When the company was launched it offered a range of Dark (DRK), Medium (MDM) and Bright (BRT) series for Jazz, Pop and Rock drummers, respectively. However, instead of using just one series for their playing, TRX soon found that players were taking a mix-and-match approach to selecting their set-ups from multiple series in order to cover a wider spectrum with a more unique quality of sound. This led to TRX’s “High-Contrast” concept along with the development of multiple series and exclusive models to expand drummers’ sonic options.
“The incredible combination of B20 Bronze, innovative designs and our master cymbal makers has allowed us to create a virtually unlimited range of sounds that are complementary, versatile and musically relevant,” says TRX founder David Levine. “In the past 20 years, along with the classic assortment of ride, hats, crashes, crash-rides and effects cymbals, our Lightning and Thunder crashes, splashes and chinas, stacks and cross-matched hi-hats have extended the spectrum and provided new options for modern players.”
TRX’ new “XX” Series is the latest development in the company’s commitment to progress as well as a celebration of their 20th Anniversary. The crash-rides and hi-hats are dark, trashy and controlled yet extremely versatile.
