Mikkey Dee, the former Motörhead drummer and current drummer for the Scorpions, has shared a harrowing account of his recent battle with sepsis, a life-threatening condition that occurs when the immune system overreacts to an infection, causing widespread inflammation. Dee revealed in an interview with Swedish newspaper Aftonbladet that he developed sepsis after spraining his foot last month, which led to a series of severe complications.

The drummer was hospitalized for three weeks, undergoing multiple surgeries as doctors fought to save his life. Dee admitted that he came “close to death” during the ordeal, even humorously quipping that he nearly ended up playing drums “in Heaven” alongside his late Motörhead bandmate, Lemmy Kilmister.

In a heartfelt social media post, Dee expressed gratitude for the exceptional care he received at Sahlgrenska University Hospital in Gothenburg, Sweden. “Thanks a million to all the Doctors and Nurses that have been giving me the most excellent care,” he wrote. “After several operations, I am now back home and the numbers are all going in the right direction. Still lots of recovery and rehab in front of me.”

Despite the severity of his condition, Dee is optimistic about his recovery and is focused on regaining his strength in time for the Scorpions‘ Las Vegas residency, which is set to begin on February 27. “I’m working hard to be back in good shape to play the drums,” he assured his fans.
