In an exciting update for the drumming community, Todd Sucherman has announced that he is returning to Sonor drums after nearly 25 years with Pearl Drums. Yesterday, Sucherman took to social media to confirm his departure from Pearl, thanking the company for an incredible partnership and sharing his excitement for what’s to come.

In his post, Todd explained:
“With a new year comes some new changes. I would like to thank Pearl Drums for nearly 25 wonderful years, but there will be a new brand of drums on my Pearl racks at home and on the road in 2025. I made many true friends at Pearl in several different countries over the years—plenty of whom I logged many miles performing at drum festivals and clinics all over the world together. I thank each one of you from the bottom of my heart.”

He went on to emphasize that his relationship with Pearl remains positive, as he will continue using their hardware, including bass drum pedals and the Icon Rack System. Todd promised a major announcement on January 6, 2025, revealing the new drum brand he would be joining.

Looking ahead, Todd shared his enthusiasm for what 2025 holds, especially as Sonor celebrates its 150th anniversary. He concluded his post with, “Onward we go!”

Sonor’s Statement on Todd Sucherman’s Return

In a statement released shortly after Todd’s announcement, Sonor expressed their excitement about Sucherman’s return to the brand. “The year 2025 marks Todd Sucherman’s return to playing SONOR drums, re-embracing the SONOR sound that he fell in love with as a young musician,” the company wrote.

Sonor highlighted Todd’s impressive career with Styx and his exceptional ability to blend musicianship with showmanship. Sucherman, known for his powerful drumming both live and in the studio, said, “I just want to play the instrument that I love. I’ve never forgotten the sound of the SONOR kit I had when I was a kid playing music with my brothers, and that sound has never left my heart.”

Jeff Mulvihill, SONOR US Brand Manager, added, “We at SONOR are proud and honored to welcome Todd Sucherman back to his home behind a SONOR kit.”

For his upcoming Styx tour, Todd will be performing on a brand-new Sonor SQ2 series kit, featuring Heavy Beech shells finished in African Marble High-Gloss Veneer, with stunning 24K gold fittings. This kit promises not only a striking look but also the exceptional sound that Sonor drums are known for.

His move signals an exciting new chapter in his already storied career, and with Sonor’s 150th anniversary, the timing couldn’t be more perfect.
