Elvin Jones’ Yamaha Maple Custom Drum Set, Authenticated 1990s
This set was part of a large collection of Elvin’s drum gear acquired directly from his wife. COA signed by Keiko Jones.
This set is one of four nearly identical Yamaha sets that Elvin used in performances all over the world from the mid 1990s until his passing in 2004. One of the sets is on display at the Zildjian cymbal factory, another at the offices Yamaha Drums. I have the other two. This set remains in excellent condition, exactly how Elvin last played it.
The Yamaha Maple Custom set in Elvin’s signature Champagne sparkle finish includes an 18×18″ bass with “Elvin Jones Jazz Machine” logo head, signed 14×5 snare, 12×8, 13×9 toms, 16×16, 18×18 floor toms. “ELVIN JONES” is engraved in the badges on the bass and floor toms. The signed snare drum head was acquired by the seller directly from Elvin Jones in 2001 separately from the set.
The set includes the complete set of hardware and “ELVIN JONES JAZZ MACHINE, YAMAHA” stenciled fiber cases seen in the photos.
Also included are a hardshell ATA snare case stenciled “ELVIN JONES JAZZ MACHINE, YAMAHA”, Elvin’s stage worn Jazz Machine t-shirt, a collection of posters from Elvin’s personal tour poster collection and a pair of his stage played sticks and brushes.
A complete set of Elvin’s K Zildjian cymbals are available separately. See and hear the set in action in the video below.
