Ringo Starr has officially canceled the remaining dates of his fall tour following an unexpected health update shared with fans just hours before a scheduled performance in Philadelphia on September 24. The former Beatle, now 84 years old, took to Instagram to announce the unfortunate news, stating that he has come down with a cold. After consulting with a doctor, he was advised to rest and cancel the final two shows, including one planned for September 25 at New York City’s Radio City Music Hall.

In his press release-style statement, Starr expressed regret but emphasized the importance of his health. Fans reacted with understanding and support, with many sharing their disappointment but prioritizing Starr’s well-being. One fan commented, “I was really looking forward to tonight’s show.  But I hope Ringo has a quick recovery!” Another wrote, “I’m so disappointed but your health comes first. Will always love you.”

However, some fans were frustrated by the timing of the announcement. One comment highlighted the distress: “Im gonna cry. 4 hours before the show is diabolical .”

The cancellation of Starr’s shows comes amid a wave of recent concert cancellations in the music industry, though many of these have been due to other circumstances rather than health issues. Ticket holders for the canceled shows will receive automatic refunds via email, while others are advised to contact their point of purchase for assistance.

In light of Starr’s cancellation, it’s worth noting that other artists have faced backlash for rescheduling shows for various reasons. For instance, Chappell Roan received criticism after canceling European concerts to perform at the VMAs, and Jelly Roll faced similar complaints when he postponed a show to appear on SNL’s season premiere.

Concerns for artists’ health have also been a recurring theme this summer. Willie Nelson, at 91, missed several performances but returned to the stage in July, alleviating fans’ worries. Conversely, Jane’s Addiction recently scrapped their entire tour after frontman Perry Farrell was involved in an on-stage altercation, with fellow band members expressing hope for his well-being.

As Ringo Starr focuses on his recovery, he and the All Starrs send “peace and love” to their fans, expressing hope to perform again soon.
