Drummer Jason Bittner has announced his departure from Overkill after a notable seven-year tenure with the American thrash metal veterans. Bittner, who joined Overkill in 2017, has been a driving force behind the band’s sound on their two recent albums, The Wings of War (2019) and Scorched (2023). His final performance with the band took place at the Vagos Metal Fest in Portugal on August 1, 2024.
Bittner’s decision to part ways with Overkill comes as he shifts his focus to other musical projects. “For a while now I have been juggling a few different bands along with Overkill,” Bittner explained. “I knew at some point something would have to give since I simply can’t be three places at once. Over the course of this last year, my schedule has reached that breaking point.”
The drummer’s departure is driven by his commitment to two other significant projects. Shadows Fall, with whom Bittner is reuniting, is in the process of completing new material and planning a return to the road in 2025. They will also be celebrating the 20th anniversary of their album *The War Within* with fall shows later this year.
In addition, Bittner is focused on his new band, Category 7, signed to Metal Blade Records. Their debut album, which was released last month, is set to be supported by a touring schedule extending into 2025.
