Saying goodbye is never easy, especially when it’s to one of our own. Today, we bid adieu to Mike Jueneman, a valued friend, contributor and editor at Drumming News Network. Mike’s journey with us began early on, but about a year ago, he decided to take a step back due to the demands of life – a new home and a busy schedule with his band, Capital Sons.
Mike was more than just a colleague; he was a husband, a dedicated drummer, and a friend to many. Known for his passion for drumming and his love for drums, Mike’s conversations about his favorite drummers and gear could go on for hours.
Despite battling health issues on and off, Mike remained resilient. However, in the past six months, he spent most of his time in the hospital. In January, he made the tough call to leave Capital Sons, a band he had dedicated himself to, having performed over 60 shows, recorded three albums, and starred in multiple music videos.
One of Mike’s standout contributions to Drumming News Network was his article titled “Closer to the Peart: One Man’s Quest to Memorialize His Hero.” Inspired by a friend’s connection to Danny de Hoyos, Mike shared the remarkable story of Danny’s Neil Peart collection, which captivated readers and became one of our most popular articles.
Mike’s passing on April 19th, at the age of 51, leaves a void in our community. In honor of his memory, a GoFundMe has been set up to support his widow with medical expenses. Any contribution, no matter how small, would be greatly appreciated.
As we bid farewell to Mike, let us remember the passion and dedication he brought to drumming and the impact he had on all who knew him.
