Jay Weinberg, who parted ways with Slipknot late last year, has found a new home in the ranks of veteran crossover-thrash band Suicidal Tendencies. The announcement comes as Weinberg gears up to make his debut with the band, beginning with shows in Japan on March 14th in Osaka and March 16th in Chiba.
Weinberg’s transition to Suicidal Tendencies was initially hinted at when it was revealed he would be drumming with the reunited Infectious Grooves, a project featuring Suicidal Tendencies’ iconic frontman, Mike Muir, and Metallica bassist Robert Trujillo. Now, it appears Weinberg has solidified his place in Muir’s main band, joining a lineup that boasts seasoned musicians such as lead guitarist Dean Pleasants, rhythm guitarist Ben Weinman (formerly of The Dillinger Escape Plan), and bassist Tye Trujillo.
The news was shared by Weinberg himself on Instagram, accompanied by a caption that paid homage to Suicidal Tendencies’ classic anthem, “You Can’t Bring Me Down.” In his statement, Weinberg expressed his deep connection to the heavy music culture, considering Suicidal Tendencies a foundational pillar and a continuous source of inspiration since his early days exploring punk, metal, and hardcore.
“When I think of the culture and community of heavy music that I’ve loved and considered my creative home for 20 years, I think of Suicidal Tendencies,” Weinberg wrote. “It’s an absolute honor and privilege to play with Suicidal Tendencies, and I can’t wait to start this incredibly exciting new chapter in just one week! See you all in the pit!”
