Rick Van Horn (Former Modern Drummer Editor) Introduces Gretsch’s 140th Anniversary Limited models for 2023
In his tour he says: “Gretsch this year is celebrating it’s 140th Anniversary, that makes it the oldest American made, family-owned drum company, and the second oldest musical instrument company of any kind, second only to Martin guitars, as a family owned American company.” And “The Gretsch family is still very active and very involved with the creation and marketing, and distribution of drums that bare the Gretsch name.”
Rick also introduces us to Will Gretsch, Fred Gretsch’s grandson representing the 6th generation of the Gretsch family involvement.

RENOWN LIMITED MAHOGANY DRUM SET:
The first Gretsch Renown model was released back in 1948 and “Renown” has remained a staple in our vocabulary ever since. Our latest evolution is the Renown Limited, a new design that showcases many features of yesteryear while staying true to the clean lines, stunning looks, and high-quality sound that drummers expect from the Gretsch Renown series.
The new Renown Limited’s foundation is a 7-ply mahogany shell that’s finished in gloss lacquer and detailed with a Vintage Marine Pearl inlay. Longstanding features like traditional sizes, a direct-to-shell mount, die-cast hoops, and 30° bearing edges put the finishing touches on this celebratory kit.
For our double platinum anniversary, this Renown Limited will only be in production throughout 2023. Celebrate 140 years of Gretsch Drums with us and add this extra special kit to your collection.

Gretsch 140th Limited Snare Drum:
To celebrate our 140th anniversary, Gretsch is excited to introduce the commemorative 140th Anniversary Snare Drum.
This 7″ x 14″ snare drum features our legendary 6-ply USA Custom Gretsch formula maple/gum shell featuring a special outer veneer of figured ash.
The snare is fitted with vintage-inspired nickel-plated hardware. Micro sensitive throw-off, and finished in a Natural Gloss lacquer. Also, this model includes a custom snare bag and certificate of authenticity signed by Fred Gretsch and the factory artisans who built these drums. Production of this collectible snare will be limited to 140 units.
