Owning a piece of Metal history is a dream come true for any fan, Vinnie Paul and his band Pantera changed metal music forever.  This Pearl signature snare is one of the best sounding 8 x 14” snares and originally priced at a fantastic price.  There are two eBay auctions, the first is for a standard signature model once owned (displayed on his wall) and the second is a one-of-a-kind prototype finished version, the finish being called “Silver Boa”.

These snares were won in an auction that ended on June 5th, 2022 by Essex Recording Studios that is located in England. The studio won the bid for the snare drum collection for an undisclosed amount of money.  On August 4th of last year we posted the unboxing video of when engineer Keith Gannon received the snares: HERE

They have put them up on eBay, separately for a mere $60,908.73 USD (£49,999.00) plus only $43.00 USD (£35.00 ) for shipping.  Shipping needs to be separate of course so to not take too much away from the earnings, and this price may only be for the UK.

To put this in perspective, historically, an authentic Buddy Rich set would sell for between $30,000.00 and $50,000.00 USD. I’m sure a set would be more now but – it’s Buddy Rich, a drummer that has inspired countless drummers for nearly 90 years. Going back as far as 1932, at 15 he was the second highest paid child entertainer behind Jackie Coogan (Charlie Chaplin, Adams Family) in the 1930s.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m a fan of Vinnie, I hung out with him several times, I own this signature model and love it, I have all his CDs, but I don’t think he garnered this kind of price, and he would agree with that.  When collecting a piece that we (fans, collectors) deem as important, they become a curator of that instrument, at some point it will go to someone else who will take care of it (hopefully), maybe even publicly display it to share with everyone.

I don’t fault anyone who would buy one of these snares, but that is a lot of money to part with even for an auction by a studio to support unsigned bands who can’t afford to record in a professional studio, either way the money still goes to the studio.

Even at 1/6th the price these snares could still benefit a studio and artists, this price would also make it almost attainable for a diehard fan that these would mean the world to.
