On this episode of Drumming News Network host Paul ”The Rog” Rogne talks with Phil Ehart of Kansas. They are talking in support of his new release Kansas “Another Fork In The Road – 50 Years of Kansas”.
Paul states: “This was a thrill for me as Phil and his band Kansas has been a part of my life, since I can remember. Their songs were some of the top hits of the 70’s and 80’s, and during all of this time they remained relevant and have had a celebrated career for 50 years and counting.”
In this interview Phil and Paul talk about the release, his career, and the following topics:
- How an early incarnation of Kansas performed live on stage with the Doors, and stunningly, on the very last song the Doors ever played.
- We talk about his history with Neil Peart and hear the story of how Neil Peart approached Phil Ehart to try to get a Slingerland endorsement and how Slingerland turned Neil down, repeatedly.
- Talk about signing with Zildjian the same day as Larrie Londin (Elvis, Dolly Parton, Garth Brooks, #1 on call Nashville drummer), performing at Zildjian days, advice he have to Larry London about clinics, and we talk about Zildjian’s 400th year celebration and his inclusion into the Zildjian 400th anniversary book that will be released this year, featuring 400 drummers.
- And talk about his “Wayward Son” Coffee and where to get yours.
