Alan White who was the drummer for John Lennon, Yes, and worked with so many legendary artists passed away on May 26th of this year. Adding to the heartache was the break in, people squatting in his home, and countless instruments that were stolen, including his drum set he used to record John Lennon’s “Imagine” with.
This incident happened on March 27th, just two short months before his passing. The drum set has not been recovered to this day.
What makes this video so poignant is that Bill presents his tribute to the drummer that replaced him in Yes. White joined Yes in 1972 after the departure of Bill Bruford. The British prog outfit was about to begin touring the new album Close to the Edge, and White learned the music in three days and became a permanent member of the band. He soon performed on the 1973 live record Yessongs and that same year’s studio album Tales From Topographic Oceans. White would go on to perform on many of Yes’ biggest hits, including “Love Will Find a Way,” “Changes,” and “Owner of a Lonely Heart.” In 1976, he released his only solo album, Ramshackled.
