JUAN POSSO LAMB: composer, performer and educator
Bio:
I was born in Quito, Ecuador, a city that is in the middle of the world, which exposes it to the influence of many cultures from different places. My music is a mixture of influences such as jazz, metal and Latin music, based on improvisation. I started playing metal and hard core empirically, performing at international festivals like Rock al Parque in Colombia, Makinaria fest in Brazil and in different places in Peru, Chile, Venezuela and Ecuador.
Later, while studying classical music, I won the first prize in the “Best soloist” contest of the year 2007 at the Mozarte conservatory in Quito, after that, I studied a degree in jazz performance at USFQ (BIN). Being a jazz student, I participated and won twice in a row the JAZZ ENVOYS contest organized by the Embassy of the United States in Quito with the SAN FRANCISCO UNIVERSITY attending seminars at the UNIVERSITY OF LOUISVILLE and playing in places like the KENNEDY CENTER in Washington DC.
At the same time, during this time I played classical music in the QUITO METROPOLITAN SYMPHONIC BAND and salsa in the LA MALAMAÑA Orchestra where I was a performer participating in national and international theaters such as the SUCRE THEATER in Quito-Ecuador or the TIANQIAO THEATER in Beijin – China. After that, I participated as a member of the worldmusic project SARAZINO (CUMBANCHA RECORDS) where we toured the United States and Canada playing in places like the Kennedy Center Washington D.C. and the Nuits de Afriques festival in Montreal.
